Healthy Routine

Following my excesses as Quarantine Queen, back to good habits…

After celebrating mums with my article Cretan Pottery, last week, today I’m going to give you my tips for staying young, fit and sharp at any age, especially as my birthday is approaching!

Mind

It’s important to keep a brain activity throughout your life, it helps to maintain and create more neuronal connections, essential for memory, learning and motor skills for example.

Jim Kwik mainly inspired me for this:

  • Aeroplane mode: the most important is to protect our brain from electromagnetic waves, no cell phone under the pillow, we activate the aeroplane mode (too bad for your boss's emails at 2am), and we move away the tablets and computers.

  • Brush your teeth with the opposite hand: this creates more neuronal connections. I think it's something we should teach children.

  • Remember your dreams in the morning: this is an activity I’m practicing for a long time, but before I only remembered one dream, doing it every morning, today I remember until 4 dreams of my night in detail.

  • Learn every day: whether with a book, listening to a podcast, or watching a documentary, the idea is to incorporate something new every day. How about the lyrics of a song or a recipe? Find what works for you.

  • Drink lots of water when you wake up:  brains are thirsty too.

  • Food for the brain: broccoli, eggs, turmeric, green vegetables, avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, wild salmon, blueberries and dark chocolate! Full of benefits this chocolate (read Chocolate Sweetheart).

You'll find your brain sharper after that, your memory will improve, you’ll find solutions more easily, you’ll be less clumsy and your concentration will be better.

Spirit
  • Meditation: I talk about it again, but it’s really effective. I’ve already encouraged you to try in my article Kind Words.

  • Gratitude: every morning during my yoga session, I thank all the things around me and everything I'm grateful for.
It gives me positive energy for the day. Besides, when I forget to do it, I poorly manage crisis...

Also read my article Thank you.

  • Yoga: it helps me to centre myself and to get a great circulation of my energy in my body,  then my body and mind are in harmony.

  • Positive Messages: as I’ve already recommended in my article Be Positive, but also in Quarantine and in my Videos.
And recently I’ve discovered the power of lofty questions, instead of affirming, we turn it into a question.
For example: "I am fit and healthy" becomes "Why am I fit and healthy? ".

Mind likes solving problems, and affirmation as a question would help to be more proactive.

I use both forms, according to the message, one model speaks to me more than the other.
It's up to you to try both.

I put my last video at the end of this article, it's about my Personal Notes.

Body

  • Take care of your skin: as I’ve explained it in my Beauty Routine, and moisturise your skin by massaging if possible, or by getting massaged by someone, even better!!

  • Physical Exercise: choose something you’re sure to practice with desire and pleasure!
For my part, no chance to take me to the gym, even by paying me. On the other hand, I love swimming, dancing and walking, activities I was doing every day in Australia.

With the confinement I kept dancing, ballet & ballroom, which I can practice alone at home, really great.

  • Physical Activity: this is your daily and natural activity, your lifestyle.
Some examples: stand and walk on the phone, dance in your living room with or without friends, take the stairs rather than the lift, park further on a car park to walk more,  a standing computer station, etc.

Nutrition
  • Food: in addition to the nutrients I’ve mentioned above for the brain, you can add those beneficial for the immune system, read again my article Quarantine. I also like those full of antioxidants and those rich in good proteins.

Here's a non-exhaustive list with my preferences:
  • Berries, kiwi, lemon, orange, banana
  • Avocado, curly endive, spinach, broccoli, carrot, button mushroom
  • Egg, chicken and turkey breast, lean beef, veal liver
  • Fish, shrimp, seafood
  • Almond, hazelnut, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, chia seeds, peanut
  • Oats, quinoa, lentils, wholemeal bread, rye bread, muesli
  • Dark chocolate, honey
  • Turmeric
  • Olive oil, coconut oil
  • Vegetal milk (coconut, almond, soy)
  • Coconut water

But generally speaking, everything natural and non-industrial is good for your health.
It’s up to everyone to find their own dietary balance, especially if you have allergies or intolerances.

I’m against restrictive diets, I've tried lots of them until I was 25, it works only temporarily and above all it dramatically stresses our body and mind. However, eating and choosing healthy food becomes a habit when you do it regularly ...

There are all kinds of apps to help you check that your daily intake of vitamins and minerals is satisfied, and especially to show you where the hidden sugars and salt are.

  • Intermittent fasting: count between 12h and 16h of fasting per day, if possible, at the same times.
For example, I only eat between 12pm and 8pm, which gives me a total of 16 hours of fasting.

Obviously keeping a social and family life is important, so adapt this principle to your needs. When I dine late on weekends, I stick to have at least 12 hours between the end of dinner and breakfast.

Each person is different, and this rule can of course vary.

This method has been proven to burn fat more easily, especially it gives your stomach time to self-clean and repair, what it can't do when it’s full or in the digestive phase.

  • Finish dinner 3 hours before bedtime: and avoid going to bed with a full stomach, to reduce fat gain & insomnia.

  • Lemon juice in a glass of water every morning: excellent for the immune system, almost the daily intake of vitamin C, and it reduces the acidity in the stomach, to start the day in top shape!

I’ve created my healthy routine over the years, and I continue to improve it with exceptional coaches and mentors: Vishen Lakhiani, Jim Kwik, Ronan Oliveira, Paul McKenna, Marisa Peer, Mat Boggs, Jon & Missy Butcher, Michael Beckwith...

It’s important to do this every day, and to combine all this, I get up an hour earlier in the morning to apply the Robin Sharma power hour: 20-20-20, 20 minutes of exercise , 20 minutes of meditation and 20 minutes of learning.

Time for myself whatever happens during the day ...

Be aware that our life expectancy is getting longer, so taking care of your body and mind is essential to get the most out of life.

And I repeat it to you constantly but being happy improves our health and our longevity, so take advantage of happiness!

Confucius said nature makes men identical, life makes them different.
I think that everything happens for a reason and every moment helps to build our personality.  I don't like rules, I follow mine. It is time for me to share my unconventional life and my unusual experience...
